The Orange County Buddhist Church Buddhist Education Center offers diverse selection of classes for those seeking to learn more about
Buddhism and Jodo Shinshu. Classes will be taught by OCBC's resident
ministers and others recognized for their knowledge of Buddhism and Jodo
Shinshu and will offer an in-depth look at a wide range of topics. These classes
are open to both the OCBC membership and the greater community and Sangha of
Southern California.
Summer Courses
1. Introduction to Buddhism and
Jodo Shinshu, by Bill Dearth.
Course will be geared for the beginner to
Buddhism or for those who have never had a
systematic presentation of Buddhism. Tuesday
evenings, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24.
Four weeks, Registration $20.
2. 七高僧について Course taught in
Japanese, by Rev. Kojo Kakihara,
Los Angeles Betsuin.
Shichi Koso -Lectures on the Seven
Masters. Two lectures, Saturday, July 24
and July 31, 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m., in the
mini-chapel. Registration, $10.
3. 浄土について Course taught in
Japanese by Rev. Mutsumi Wondra.
Jodo ni tsuite - Lectures on the Pure Land.
Three lectures, Saturday mornings, Aug.
14, 21, and 28. 9:30 - 11:00 a.m., in the

in relationships. Registration: $20.
3. LECTURES ON THE LARGER SUTRA OF IMMEASURABLE LIFE
by Instructor Reverend Marvin Harada Thursday Morning. 10:30- 12 noon. Eight weeks. Sept. 9,
16, 23, 30, Oct. 14, 21, 28, Nov. 4. The Larger Sutra of Immeasurable Life is one of the three main
sutras that Shin Buddhism is based upon. This course will study the main sections and passages on
this important sutra, and the implications those teachings have for our life today. Registration: $40

Q: When are the Winter classes?
A: Classes start in January 2010. Please check each
course description for the date of the first class.
Q: Where will classes be held?
A: Most of the classes will be held in the OCBC Mini chapel, adjacent to
Main Sanctuary.
Q: Can only OCBC members take these courses?
A: These courses are open to everyone. OCBC membership is
not required to attend.
Q: What is the cost for a course, and are materials included in
that cost?
A: Tuition depends on the course. Some printed materials are
included in that fee. Other required books and materials can be purchased at the first class session.
