For computers, a byte is a concise unit of information (technically speaking a byte is 8 bits). This new feature, Board Bytes, is intended to be a concise summary of announcements and decisions from the monthly OCBC Board of Directors (BOD) meetings. Due to the timing of the Korin deadlines with respect to the monthly BOD meetings, there may be a two month lag in this report. We will try to avoid repeating an item written elsewhere in the Korin.
Byte 1: The switchover to the new OCBC website design (www.ocbuddhist.org) created by Greg Goodman will occur shortly after the Dec BOD meeting.
Byte 2: In 2011, the OCBC ministers and ministers assistants performed over 780 services at OCBC, Arizona, Gardena and Vista.
Byte 3: Rev Harada will be a speaker at a symposium in Kyoto, Japan. The symposium is hosted by our mother temple, the Nishi Hongwanji. The subject of the symposium is the Propagation of Buddhism and Rev Harada will be speaking about the various OCBC programs. He is leaving the day after the Dec BOD meeting and will be gone for one week. The attendance is expected to be about 300 persons.
Byte 4: 60 students from the Nishi Hongwanji Kyoto Girls High School will be visiting OCBC on Feb 12, 2012. They will sing a gatha at the service, attend the high school Dharma class, and have lunch with the OCBC youth groups. The BOD approved $300 for the youth luncheon.
Byte 5: Roy Tomooka is retiring as the treasurer for the OCBC Scholarship Funds and the Youth Program. His son, Robert Tomooka, has graciously agreed to be the new treasurer.
Byte 6: The BOD approved the 2012 salary compensation for the ministers that was recommended by the Finance Committee.
Byte 7: The BOD approved the 2011 Oseibo distribution to the ministers and the Dharma School that was recommended by the Finance Committee.
