50th Anniversary Project

In preparation for our 50th Anniversary in 2014, and in planning for the next 50 years of teachings to our growing Sangha, the OCBC Board of Directors has authorized this major fund raising effort to provide necessary facility upgrades. We are very fortunate to have a growing Sangha, and have identified the need to nurture that growth with new facility improvements and expansions.

Historical Background

In less than 5 years, the Orange County Buddhist Church will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary! Over the past 45 years our ministers and hundreds of families have taken the necessary steps to prepare for the future. They have shaped the facilities we enjoy today, and as a result have created the character and personality of the OCBC. They have given their creativity, energy and money to develop what we have today – a thriving and growing Sangha!

Meeting Our Needs

The thriving Sangha and OCBC’s new programs require space to operate. Programs such as the Buddhist Education Center, Ministers’ Assistants Program, and Digital Media Center are valuable additions that need room to expand.  The expansion include a new 18,990 square feet tri-level social hall with a larger kitchen and bathrooms, a second story for offices, meeting and conference rooms, and a basement for storage.  The Project includes Hondo enhancements with complete restoration of our 50 year-old Naijin and expansion of the seating area by over 2,700 square feet.  Also incorporated will be an improved entry, expanded lavatory facilities, a cry room for children, wheelchair seating, and enhanced audio visual equipment area.  Completing the project, plans call for renovation of the courtyard, replacement of the MPB gym floor, and replacement of the entire parking lot blacktop.

Your Part in Building for the Future

Donors to Building Upon a Dream of $5,000 or more will have their name, or designee’s name, inscribed upon a donor wall in the new Social Hall. Donations can be made as a one time gift or as a five year pledge. All donations to this project will be acknowledged by the project’s treasurer as the donations are received. Please help us make this dream for an improved facility a reality. We ask that you give generously to provide these necessary facility upgrades to ensure the future of OCBC.

Hi Everyone! Boy, how time flies! It’s already April and one-third of 2012 is almost over. The Coin Drive total is at $10,248.19! If my math is correct that means I have to collect $4,751.81 by December 31, 2012 in order to make my goal of $15,000.00. eek!!! That means that I have to collect $527.98 each month (give or take a penny) for the next 8...
