For computers, a byte is a concise unit of information (technically speaking a byte is 8 bits). This feature, Board Bytes, is intended to be a concise summary of announcements and decisions from the monthly OCBC Board of Directors (BOD) meetings. Due to the timing of the Korin deadlines with respect to the monthly BOD meetings, there may be a two month lag in this report.
Byte 1: Starting in June, 2012, the BCA will be replacing its various fund raising programs with a single unified, “Dharma Offering, Annual Giving” program.
Byte 2: The BCA Debt Relief effort is a one-year effort from May, 2011, through May, 2012, requesting voluntary contributions of $199 from each BCA member to specifically repay the California Bank & Trust mortgage on the Jodo Shinshu Center (JSC). Thank you to everyone who supported the Debt Relief effort.
Byte 3: The BCA dues assessment to each temple for 2012 is $99.99 per member. The BCA budget decreased from 2011 to 2012 but as overall BCA membership has decreased, the dues increased slightly. This year approximately $3 of the assessment will be used to help pay off the JSC loan.
Byte 4: OCBC BEC is working on changing a number of books into electronic format for e-books.
Byte 5: Rumi Nakatani was one of 29 persons throughout the state to receive a California Senior Leaders Award from the UC Berkeley School of Public Health and The California Wellness Foundation. The award is presented every two years to honor Californians age 60 and older for their outstanding contributions to the community, for promoting healthy aging and social justice. Please join the OCBC BOD in congratulating Rumi for her well-deserved recognition.
